CountryNet
now provides free email service to subscribers
(up
to 5 accounts).
Here are
the things that have to be done to start service:
Step
1: You let us know [mailto] what email
address you wish to use. It will be in the form of:
xxxxx@countrynet.net
Where the
xxxxx field is your email address, is variable
length, must be lower case and cannot include blanks
(spaces).
Example: johndoe@countrynet.net
Also
provide us your name as you wish it to appear in our
email records. This need not be the same as the name
you reflect in messages that you send. This helps us
to find your entry in our records for future
reference, and will be used by you in managing your
email account.
Step
2: We will create account(s) for you using
the address(s) you provide us. We enter your
temporary password as [12345]. You will use this
temporary password to enter the server and establish
your private password. We will not have access to
this private password, so you should keep a written
record.
Step
3: You open your web browser and access our
server. You can do that by going to the following
Internet address:
http://66.76.239.8/cgi-bin/qmailadmin
This will take you to
our server where you can change your default
password and personalize your account (e.g. johndoe@countrynet.net)
by completing the following fields:
| USER
ACCOUNT |
Your
E-mail Name (e.g. johndoe) |
| DOMAIN
NAME |
countrynet.net |
| PASSWORD |
12345 |
The link
that leads to web mail is presently a two-step
process. The first
step leads to our "squirrel mail" entry
point, and then entering the user
name and password leads to the actual mail. This
should be a single step - going through the squirrel
mail logon. Thus the subscriber would enter his
email address and password directly in fields of our
web site. If you are uncertain about how this is
done we will provide some amplification by phone.
Talk to Vince Godinich or Ned Rice.
Your Email
Name" must be exactly as you have specified
your email address.
To
personalize your email account proceed to Step 4
Step
4: Upon completion of Step 3 your will be
presented with a screen that looks like this:
Mail
Administration
| Countrynet.net |
| Main

| Modify
User XXXXXX |
Click on
"Modify User"
And this
will take you to another screen that says:
| New

| Password
Again |
XYXYXYXY |
| Real

(
Your Name ) |
The
password is case sensitive, and can consist
of letters and
numbers, and should be between 4
and 10 characters in length. (There are other
functions that
can be performed with this screen that
go beyond setting up your account. These will
be described later.)
Click
"Modify User" and your account is
established.
Using
Your Account:
The exact
steps you will take to use the email service will
depend upon the mail client you have chosen (Outlook
, Outlook Express, Mozilla, etd) and your operating
system. Here are the key elements:
This is a
POP3 mail service.
"name"
is your real name (e,g, John Doe)
Incoming
mail server is: mail.countrynet.net
Outgoing
mail server is: mail.countrynet.net
User
Name is :
youremailname@countrynet.net
Password
is: your private password that you have already
established (exactly as you have established it).
You have to
check the box that says "My outgoing server (smtp)
requires auth"
This last
step is a security provision, and must be done in
order to use the service.
TIPS: Here
are two tips that will help you in setting up your
mail client
to work effectively with our mail server:
First Tip: Our server is a "multi-domain"
server. That is, it will host
many different email domains. In order for the
server to correctly handle
your countrynet.net mail you have to include the
domain with your user name: For example
johndoe@countrynet.net
would not
show his user name as johndoe but as johndoe@countrynet.net.
Second Tip: Our server requires authentication on
sent mail, but not on
long-in nor on received mail. Therefore, on your
client setup (Outlook,
Outlook express, etc.) you will need to check the
box that says something like "send mail
requires auth". Be assured that the
process of authentication is entirely automatic -
you will not have to worry with it
after having checked the "box".
